LWML Introduces "A Cup with Kay"
LWML President Kay Kreklau enjoys a cup of tea while reading the Scriptures, or while in prayer. President Kay is inviting you to pray with her, and your brothers and sisters-in-Christ, on Saturday mornings for 9 minutes at 9:00 a.m. Just as steam from your cup, all prayers will rise up! Check out Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheLWML, or the LWML website at www.lwml.org/missions for monthly mission grant highlights as a suggested focus for your prayers.
The LWML website changes constantly. To help inspire you to check out each page, we’ve hidden a small logo throughout the website. Peruse through all the pages on the website to see how many of the small logos you can find!
Once you think you’ve found them all, simply submit your guess along with your name, phone number or e-mail address to pr@lwml.org. All responses received by the 15th of each month will be will be entered into drawing. This would be a fun group activity for your woman's group at one of your events. Each month we will draw two winners who will receive a special gift. On March 1, 2013 the names of two grand prize winners will be drawn. These two individuals will have the opportunity to have A Cup with Kay in person at the LWML Convention in Pittsburgh, June 27-30, 2013!
You do not want to miss this opportunity to receive a special gift or, better yet, a chance to win the grand prize!!! The winners will be personally contacted, announced on the LWML website at www.lwml.org, and on Facebook.
Take the time for 9 minutes on Saturdays to connect with your Father in Heaven along with others around the globe. Have fun searching at www.lwml.org for those “A Cup with Kay” logos.

LWML PRESIDENT SHARES VISION
Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) President Kay Kreklau revealed her vision for the organization at the 2012 LWML Board of Directors Meeting. While commenting on the challenges of today, President Kreklau emphasized the rich history of the organization. We are the Women of the LWML – Serving the Lord with Gladness!
This year, the LWML celebrates its 70th anniversary. Looking back at the rich history of this organization, it is clear that God has given wisdom and success to the women who have faithfully sought His Word for guidance and direction. The vision of ordinary women, who wanted to learn from and live for Jesus, began this sisterhood dedicated to Serving the Lord with Gladness (referencing Psalm 100:2). What a legacy God has given us through the efforts of these women!
We are women that will:
- Learn from and live for Jesus - The women of the LWML seek the Lord’s wisdom for the work He has set before us. We know Bible study provides the opportunity to learn about Jesus and grow in our knowledge of Him. Prayer allows us to intimately talk to our Lord. We continue to seek His will in all that we do and invite others to join us as we learn from Jesus in His Word. We joyfully live for Jesus.
The venues where women can meet for Bible study have changed and expanded, allowing us to share Scripture and prayers through social media, in coffee houses, as well as in our own kitchens and churches. However, in a world where change is the norm, we are blessed with the assurance of our never-changing Lord and Savior. - Take joy in being His voice, hands, and feet - Our service shows the love of Jesus in our actions, as we offer our hands, our feet, and our voices to work for Him. Each woman has a role in the LWML of today. The tools are simple, the skills provided freely by our Lord. Each woman has the ability to…be a friend, be a listener, be available, be a reflection of Jesus’ love, be flexible, be in prayer, be a learner, be a story teller, be a giver, be an inviter, be intentional, be faithful, be ready, be confident – all in service to Christ Jesus. Each of these actions will build us up as individual women and as an organization, helping to make us the open door that invites all to know Jesus.
- Focus on missions, not meetings - Jesus’ focus was His mission, not the often traditional meetings or events He attended. That is where our focus should be as well! We must look beyond the traditional, looking to Jesus as our example. The LWML was founded by women who challenged the traditional, and changed the way things were done because they knew they could serve God better, never straying from Word and doctrine, but always looking for ways to increase the spread of the Gospel and their commitment to serving Him.
Like the women before us, we will embrace change when change is needed. Many women today are not looking for ways to fill the hours in their days, but they are looking for opportunities to make a difference. We will offer meeting-free formats and short-term service events, as well as opportunities to women who can find satisfaction in serving Christ without feeling they are committing themselves to a never-ending duty.
Just like those courageous women who founded this LWML, The LWML women of today will hold fast to the commitment of our Mites to fund Mission Grants, remembering that we are but guardians of our earthly treasures. The Mission Grants funded will continue to extend His Kingdom and to share His story.
We look back to where we have been, drawing from every good thing. We look forward to the future with joyful anticipation of how far we will go and what we will accomplish with the Lord’s guidance always before us.

LWML REVEALS LOGO FOR 2013 LWML CONVENTION
The convention logo for the 35th Biennial Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Convention was created by graphic designer Janet Hurta of McGregor, Texas. The theme for the convention is: Quenched! by the Water. The logo and the convention theme are based on the Scripture verse from John 4: 14. [Jesus said:] “…but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
In the logo, the pitcher represents Jesus as the vessel used by God to convey His reconciliation to us. God allowed Jesus to be "poured out" for us; emptied as He offered Himself on the cross so we could in turn be "splashed" with a restoring spirit. We receive the crown of life in Jesus to go out like the ripples, touching others with the Good News of redemption.
The LWML Convention will be held Thursday, June 27 - Sunday, June 30, 2013, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The goal statement for the convention is: Quenched by Christ’s redeeming grace, I am empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a wellspring of the Father’s love.
Convention attendees will have the opportunity for personal spiritual growth through worship and study of the Word as they glorify the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; drink deeply from His Word; and share His overflowing love.
For up-to-date convention information, see future issues of the Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly or visit the website at www.lwml.org/conventions.
Requests for permission to use the LWML convention logo must besubmitted in writing to the LWML Public Relations Director.
